As a Sussex surprise engagement photographer, Devil’s Dyke is one of my favourite locations. The views at sunset are always incredible, and sunset is always my favourite time of day for a proposal. Especially for a romantic picnic!
When J reached out to have me photograph his proposal to E, he mentioned Brighton was their special place. He knew he wanted to propose while they were staying in the city. And quickly decided it had to be their first night! He was too excited to wait any longer.
How they met
J+E met during lockdown. When the distance to those next door was just as far as those an ocean away.
Tinder had gone global and these two crossed paths in a way that would have been impossible just months before.
And so they talked. And talked. And with each conversation they fell in love.
When lockdowns lifted, J worked remotely so he could visit E. Soaking up as much precious time together as they could.
But now they are kissing long distance goodbye for good!

When we talked about the best spot to propose in Brighton, he knew almost right away that Devil’s Dyke was the best spot. He wanted some place quiet and away from the crowds.
Here are a few other Devil’s Dyke engagement proposals:
- M+R’s epic sunset proposal
- J+Z’s proposal in the pouring rain
- Y+C’s sunset engagement proposal
- T+T’s picnic proposal
J+E’s engagement proposal in Brighton
For his proposal to E, J took an Uber to Devil’s Dyke Pub. And they walked from the carpark to this gorgeous spot.
And to say E was in complete shock is an understatement. She was all smiles and tears.
Till next time,
