LEWES · EAST SUSSEX · WEDDINGS IN TOWN + THE SOUTH DOWNS
Lewes Wedding Photographer
Your wedding is for getting married, celebrating with your favourite people and having a brilliant time. I’ll make sure you remember how it felt.
Lewes is one of those places where a wedding can belong to more than one building. A ceremony at the Castle can become a walk through town to Pelham House. A smaller wedding at the Register Office has Southover Grange immediately outside. And just beyond town, the South Downs open everything up again.
I’m based near Brighton and have photographed weddings in and around Lewes for years, from castle ceremonies and town-centre celebrations to churches, private gardens, marquees and country estates, and out to Firle, Ringmer and Barcombe.

LEWES CASTLE · PELHAM HOUSE · SOUTHOVER GRANGE · FIRLE + BEYOND
Your whole wedding doesn’t have to happen behind one front door.
One of the things I love about photographing weddings in Lewes is how naturally the day can move. Guests spilling out of a ceremony. Walking through town newly married. Ten minutes together before you head into dinner. The journey between two parts of the wedding can become part of the story rather than dead time in a car.
The wedding keeps moving. I photograph what happens along the way.
There’s room for beautiful portraits in there too. I’ll choose the light, give you direction when it helps and make decisions quickly, without turning the walk between your ceremony and reception into a separate photoshoot.
And if everything is happening in one place? Brilliant. The point isn’t to manufacture a tour of Lewes. It’s to use what is already around us when it adds something to your day.
WEDDINGS IN LEWES + THE SURROUNDING DOWNS
Lewes Castle. Register office. Country estate. Family garden.
Lewes gives you a surprising amount of choice without making the geography of the day enormous. These are some of the weddings and places I’ve photographed here, each with a completely different shape.
More locations don’t automatically mean better photographs. Better decisions usually do.
AMERICAN ACCENT · A SOFT SPOT FOR LEWES
I loved Lewes before I ever photographed a wedding here.
When I first came to England to meet my husband’s family, Lewes was one of the first places they took me. Lewes Castle was the first castle I had ever seen in real life which, for an American newly arrived in England, was frankly rather exciting.
Years later, I got to photograph a wedding there.
That history doesn’t make me better at photographing your wedding. But it does mean I’m always rather pleased when Lewes appears in an enquiry.
I know this town beyond arriving with cameras on a wedding morning. More importantly, I know weddings. The useful part is knowing how to combine the two without turning your day into a checklist of Lewes landmarks.

WHAT WORKING WITH ME ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
Knowing Lewes is useful. Knowing weddings is more useful.
I’ve been photographing weddings for more than fifteen years. That experience shows up less in a list of places I know and more in the decisions I can make quickly while your day is actually happening.
I learn who your people are.
Names, relationships and context tell me where to look. They also make family photographs considerably less painful when I can call people by name instead of shouting “bride’s brother?” into a crowd.
I protect the parts of the day you care about.
If lunch with everyone matters more than a grand tour of Lewes, we do not spend an hour collecting landmarks. If family photographs matter, we make them efficient. If you want time together, I protect some space for it.
I photograph what happens between the headline moments.
The ceremony matters. So does everyone spilling onto the High Street afterwards, your mum reaching for you, the friend already crying and the ridiculous thing somebody says while you’re walking to the reception.
I’ll give direction when it helps.
Lewes gives us plenty to work with without making you perform for the camera. I’ll choose good light, give you something useful to do and make small adjustments when they genuinely improve the photograph.
I plan around the real geography.
A five-minute walk is useful. A twenty-minute drive at the wrong point in the day can eat the exact bit of the wedding you were excited about. We build photography around the day you want to have, not the other way round.
The town is lovely. Your people are still the point.
Yes, I’ll make photographs that show you got married in Lewes. I’ll also make the photographs that remind you who was there with you. Very often, those are the ones doing the heaviest lifting years later.
KIND WORDS
“The way you seamlessly became an integral and sometimes invisible part of our day, yet still managed to gather such wonderful moments, is a testament to your skills.”

STILL CHOOSING WHERE TO GET MARRIED?
Looking for a wedding venue in Lewes?
Lewes packs rather a lot into a small area. Pelham House puts the whole wedding in the middle of town. Lewes Castle gives you a ceremony above it. Lewes Register Office has Southover Grange immediately outside, while Firle Place takes you into the South Downs for a completely different kind of wedding.
Just outside town there are barns at Laughton, a riverside pub at Barcombe, garden venues and vineyards around Alfriston, and relaxed pubs and restaurants for smaller weddings after the register office.
If you’re still deciding where to get married, my guide to wedding venues in Lewes covers around 30 of them, with licences, capacity and prices.

LEWES WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ
Planning a wedding in Lewes? A few useful answers.
Are you based near Lewes?
I’m based just outside Brighton and photograph weddings throughout Lewes and the villages around it, including Ringmer, Barcombe, Firle, Glynde, Kingston and Ditchling, plus the South Downs and the rest of East Sussex.
Have you photographed at Pelham House?
Yes. I’ve photographed weddings at Pelham House and have a dedicated Pelham House wedding photography page where you can see more of my work there.
Have you photographed a wedding at Lewes Castle?
Yes. I’ve photographed ceremonies at Lewes Castle, including a wedding that moved through town to Pelham House afterwards. It’s a brilliant example of several Lewes locations working together without the day being dominated by travel.
Where can we take wedding photographs in Lewes?
That depends on where your wedding is happening, the light, weather and how much time you actually want away from your guests. Southover Grange, the town centre and the area around Lewes Castle can all work beautifully, but I’d rather choose what suits your wedding than hand every couple the same route.
Do you photograph smaller weddings at Lewes Register Office?
Absolutely. Smaller weddings and ceremony-led coverage are available, including weddings at Lewes Register Office. You don’t need a full-day wedding to have the parts that matter photographed properly.
Do you photograph weddings outside Lewes?
All the time. Lewes is local to me, not a boundary. I photograph weddings throughout Sussex, London and elsewhere in the UK and overseas.
What is your wedding photography style?
People-first and largely documentary, with thoughtful direction when it helps. I want you to enjoy the wedding while I pay attention to the people, reactions and photographs worth planning for.
How much does wedding photography in Lewes cost?
My collections vary depending on the amount of coverage and what you want included. You can see current starting prices on my wedding pricing page, and you don’t need to choose the perfect collection before you enquire.
Can we get married in Lewes on Bonfire weekend?
You can, but plan carefully. Lewes Bonfire on 5 November closes roads, stops trains and fills the town, so a wedding that weekend works best at a venue outside town, or with a plan that embraces the celebrations.
Do you photograph proposals, engagement shoots and families in Lewes too?
Yes. Alongside weddings I photograph proposals, engagement shoots and family sessions in Lewes and across Sussex. The twittens, the castle and Southover Grange gardens are lovely for all of them.
