As an extended family photographer in Sussex, my speciality is big groups! It started off with weddings and getting compliments from guests, and has grown into a passion of mine.

My mother comes from a huge family of six siblings. And her mother mother from an even bigger one of eight! And we were close – so family reunions were huge events of over 100 Nockels descending on unsuspecting resorts in matching shirts. Did I mention I’m American? The matching shirts is probably a very American thing.

But family reunions are universal. I love photographing family gatherings at pubs or at a beach house.

Gathering at the Beach with Extended Family Photographer

This family gathering was in celebration of Angela’s 70th birthday – though I swear that gorgeous woman doesn’t look a day over her mid 50s! Is it just me or are people looking less old for their age as I get older? It’s either advances in anti-aging or I’m in denial.

The weather was predicted to be horrible, but as it was really rare for everyone to get together, this crazy lot went ahead! Thankfully we got a break in the rain, but the wind was intense!

I’d suggested moving inland and away from the wind, but they loved the idea of a beach session and embracing the high wind speed. But again, they embraced all that is our British weather and stuck to the beach.

We kept the session fairly short as the children got cold fast – this was November after all! But we got some really lovely photographs of them all together – and looking happy.

Here are a few of my favourite as I’m massively behind on blogging!
