BRICKWALL HOUSE · NORTHIAM · EAST SUSSEX

A grand old house, a walled garden and a marquee on the lawn.

Brickwall House is one of my favourite places for an English country garden wedding. I know the staircase where brides come down to their dads, the hidden walled garden for quiet portraits, and the lawn where the marquee glows once the sparklers and fireworks come out.

The house sits in Northiam, close to Rye and Hastings. You can marry in the Georgian ballroom, which is licensed for civil ceremonies, or at a church nearby, then celebrate in a marquee in the gardens, with room for around 200 guests. There’s a bridal room in the house, a giant garden chessboard and an outdoor pool, and during term time the building is home to Frewen College.

WHERE THE PHOTOGRAPHS HAPPEN

The places I’ll take you at Brickwall House.

The staircase

The grand staircase is made for getting-ready photographs and for that moment when you walk down to your dad, or your partner, for the first time.

The walled garden

Tucked away from the party, the walled garden is where I take you for a few quiet minutes of portraits. Relaxed, unhurried and never a separate photoshoot.

Sparkler exit outside the marquee at Brickwall House

The marquee after dark

Once the sun goes down, the marquee on the lawn glows. Sparkler exits, fireworks and the dance floor in full swing are some of my favourite moments here.

KIND WORDS

“Kelsie truly has a way of putting you at ease to capture the perfect candid shots.”

KAYLA

"She has this ability to capture the essence of a person… as if she's known them years instead of minutes"

TEGAN

"Before I could introduce people she knew exactly who was who… everyone felt a connection to Kelsie."

PLANNING A BRICKWALL HOUSE WEDDING

A few useful answers.

Have you photographed at Brickwall House before?

Yes, several times, and it’s one of my favourite East Sussex venues. You can see whole Brickwall House weddings above.

Where can we get married at Brickwall House?

The Georgian ballroom is licensed for civil ceremonies, so you can marry in the house itself. Plenty of couples marry at a church nearby instead, such as St Mary’s in Northiam, and come back to the house for the celebration.

What happens if it rains?

With a ceremony in the ballroom and a marquee on the lawn, everything important stays dry. I keep an eye on the sky all day so we can nip out to the walled garden the moment it clears.

Where can we get ready?

There’s a bridal room in the house, and the staircase right outside it is wonderful for photographs. Partners often get ready nearby, at places like the Flackley Ash Hotel, and I’m happy to start wherever you are.

How much does a Brickwall House wedding photographer cost?

Collections depend on how much of the day you’d like covered. You’ll find current starting prices on my pricing page, and I’m happy to tailor something to your day.

Do you photograph other East Sussex venues?

Yes, right across the county, including Buxted Park Hotel, Firle Place and Pelham House. See all my East Sussex weddings.

Tell me what you’re planning.

Not what you’re supposed to care about. What you actually can’t wait for. Tell me who you’re bringing, what the day looks like so far, and I’ll tell you how I’d photograph it.
